Dear Sharon,

I wish I could adequately express my thanks to you for writing this book. I was in the drama bookshop today looking for scripts that might possibly work for a fat girl, when I saw your book. I had to buy it. I couldn't put it down, I'm surprised Starbucks didn't kick me out I stayed reading it so long! I managed to finish it tonight, and even squeeze in a performance of Avenue Q as well. Now thats what I call a great day!

I have also struggled with weight my entire life, being told by my father at the age of nine that if I just lost ten pounds I'd be perfect, and that I could never be a real actress because no one hired fat girls. I too became a master at sneaking food and was just under 200 lbs in middle school. I kept losing and gaining weight from that point on each time adding more back. Every time I decied to lose weight I would tell myself that when I lost _ amount of pounds I'd pursue my dreams.

After majoring in Theatre I graduated college and went with my back up plan of teaching because I wasn't thin enough. At the end of four years I was almost 300 pounds and I decided enough was enough. I set goals. I lost 50 pounds, uprooted my life and moved to New York in August to pursue acting. I finally stopped letting weight stand in the way of my goals. Every day that I pass by all the tiny girls in my acting studio or see the majority of the broadway casts I panic at my decision. Sometimes I let it discourage me. Mostly though I'm happy to be me; a strong, beautiful, talented woman regardless of size. And you know what? I'm incredibly happy that I don't look like everyone else!

Although your book brought up some painful memories for me, this was just what I needed right now. Thank you so much for telling your story. I am forever grateful!

Sincerely,
Leah
